HISTORIC VALDESE, HOME OF THE WALDENSIANS

Join us as we travel to Valdese, a small town located in the rolling foothills of western NC and founded in 1893 by a group of 29 Waldensian settlers. The Waldensians, originally known as the Valdese (dwellers in the valley), were simple, hardworking and faithful people that lived in northern Italy close to the French border. In 1893 a group of 11 families left Italy seeking economic opportunity and founded the small town. Today the town honors their heritage and shares their journey to prosperity through artifacts, attractions, and events. We will learn of the rich traditions of the Waldensians and their historic journey from the hills of Italy to Burke County, NC, by visiting the Waldensian Heritage Winery, the Waldensian Museum, the Trail of Faith, Old Rock School Art Galleries, and more. ARK ENCOUNTER AND CREATION MUSEUM

Today’s journey takes us to beautiful Northern Kentucky, where we will check into our hotel for a three-night stay. Our visit here will include the Ark Encounter, Creation Museum, and more. Our itinerary looks like this:

After breakfast at the hotel, we will start our day with the event you have been waiting for. You will be amazed at the Ark Encounter, a life-sized Noah’s Ark Experience, featuring a full-scale model of Noah’s Ark, built according to dimensions given in the Bible. Spanning 510 feet long, it is 85 feet wide and 51 feet high. You will experience the Bible as never before when you see this engineering marvel, enjoy the friendly animals in the zoo, and see the jaw-dropping exhibits inside the Ark.
We will have lunch at the Ark Encounter (on your own), at Emzara’s Kitchen, a two-story casual restaurant with a spectacular view of the Ark. The restaurant offers a variety of options, including a buffet.
Travel to Frankfort, capital of KY, for a guided tour of the city and its many beautiful, historic sites, including the grave of Daniel Boone.

After breakfast at the hotel, we travel to Petersburg, KY, to Ark Encounter’s sister attraction, The Creation Museum. Again we venture through Biblical history as we explore this 75,000 square foot museum, with its state-of-the-art exhibits, high-tech Planetarium, full-size Allosaurus skeleton, stunning botanical gardens, petting zoo, and more.
Lunch at the museum (on your own). The Museum has several dining options: Noah’s Café or Palm Pizza, as well as Bruster’s ice cream and Uncle Leroy’s fudge!
Next we tour St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, KY. This magnificent cathedral, designated a minor basilica by Pope Pius XII in 1953, features gorgeous tiny mosaics, breath-taking stained glass, Gothic architecture, and 26 gargoyles that were carved in Italy. Per one visitor: a “must see” if you are in this area.

After breakfast at the hotel, we travel to Milton, WV, for lunch (included) and a tour of Blenko Glass Company, family-owned and operated since 1893. In a world of automation, Blenko prides itself on exquisite hand-crafted products that are unique and inspiring. The included lunch is at Shonet Country Café.
Centuries ago slow-moving ground water sculpted a masterpiece of stone beneath Humpback Mountain, near Marion, NC. North Carolina’s only show cavern, Linville Caverns is decorated with amazing shapes, multiple textures, and a spectrum of color. These intricate underground passages continue to grow and form new amazing rock shapes, like columns, draperies, canopies, straws, and icicle-like forms. Our guided tour will take us along well-lit, smooth level walkways and will point out interesting formations and explain the history of the cavern. After our visit at Linville Caverns, we will travel through the mountains to Boone and enjoy a scrumptious family-style lunch (included) at Daniel Boone Inn. Before heading back to Clemmons, we will visit the original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis.

Day 3: After breakfast, we’ll start our day with the incredible “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” featuring song and dance routines from major movie musicals over 50 years of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Next, we will enjoy some shopping time at Branson Landing, a shopping and dining complex. Later we will sit down to a three-course meal on board the famous SHOWBOAT BRANSON BELLE, where we will be treated to a spectacular show while we cruise the waters of Table Rock Lake. This evening we enjoy “Liverpool Legends, The Complete Beatles Experience,” a tribute to the original “Fab Four” with songs spanning he entire career of the Beatles and on through the solo years.
